Well, you see no writer can ever ignore one of the most important question and it is:
What do I say when asked what my book is "like"?
Wow, you see it is an amazing question, the key to the bestseller books, is not it.
The answer is:
Despite what you might think, if your book is 'like' another book, or written in the style of another author, that's good! It gives agents and publishers a precise idea of what your book is about, and it's marketability. The concept you really want to stay away from is the book that's not like anything else out there, in a style that's never been seen before.
Publishers and agents don't want to spend their money and time on something that is unproven and might not sell at all. If that sounds a touch mercenary, well, that's what the publishing business is all about. You want your book to be different, but not so different that it scares away potential buyers!
Okay, I can't tell you the number of times I'm asked about creating information products. You pretty much have to be living under a rock not to know they are one of, if not the most, profitable areas on or off the internet.
The question I get asked the most, though, is how do you find a topic that is hot and hasn't been done to death? And then, after you've found the topic, how do you turn that into an information product?
